At the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show site, BMW brought its latest family flagship, the XM, with a car after the front editor took the first shot of this performance machine with a starting price of 2.3 million yuan to see if the latest masterpiece of BMW's M division can impress your wallet.
The XM is the 50th anniversary of BMW's M division and is the most expensive model currently on sale, as well as the most powerful model BMW has ever produced.
BMW XM exterior: with a sense of movement, how about road performance?
In terms of design, the XM pays tribute to the legendary sports car M1, the first stand-alone model of the M division, which is reflected in several details. 5110/2005/1755 mm in length, width and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 3105 mm and an overall mass of 2750 kg, the most in BMW's history, positioning the XM as a large SUV.
The Xm's split headlights and giant double-kidney grille are the latest BMW family design, and the actual car is full of aura. The golden double-kidney grille contains a circle of luminous light bands and invisible black spokes with the golden XM model logo. Through the grille you can see the large intercooling area, which provides the necessary cooling for the V8 machine. Viewed from the front, the XM is majestic and muscular.
The upper half of the split headlights are LED daytime running lights, shaped as new digital "angel eyes" with sharp lines, while the real headlight clusters are hidden underneath. Up to 23-inch wheels are available for the higher models, also the largest size of BMW, and the gold accented color blocking paint is quite elegant and fits well with the hard and aggressive body style. However, this also implies that the XM places more emphasis on on-road performance than off-road capability.
The XM's window frame is decorated with a unique gold folding line on the periphery and extends all the way to the front fender, ending with the XM logo and the charging port for the plug-in hybrid system below. The show car was photographed with XM's exclusive "Cape York Green", with elegant gold detailing. BMW's signature design element, the Hofmeister corner, is hidden in a golden fold rather than the traditional window frame shape.
The "Blue Sky White Cloud" logo is laser-etched into the two upper corners of the rear window, a design directly inherited from the M1, and the taillights have a three-dimensional suspension shape, with three diagonal wide lights as a tribute to the M1. the XM logo is placed close to the left taillight instead of centered, which is very unique.
The wide diffuser has a set of hexagonal exhaust pipes arranged up and down on each side, which is very sporty. From the oblique rear, the taillights have a very obvious suspension effect, which is one of the latest BMW family design elements.
XM interior: full of the premium feel of a luxury electric car
The interior design of the XM is not as aggressive as the exterior, and the overall layout is relatively conservative. The dual-linked screen with built-in iDrive8 system also retains the sturdy gear lever, which is perhaps the down-to-earth feeling needed for a performance flagship. In addition to a few carbon fiber accents, the XM's upper trim levels can be fitted with the optional dark brown Merino premium leather pictured in the photos, for a great sense of luxury.
The entire interior of the XM is clad in a generous amount of leather, and the three-dimensional embossed roof finish with ambient lighting creates a dreamy effect like a jeweled cave. I wonder if this innovative design will trigger a new wave of imitation in the aftermarket?
The XM's powertrain consists of a 4.4T turbocharged V8 engine and a fourth-generation eDrive motor, which is integrated into an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The entire plug-in hybrid system is capable of delivering a maximum of 653 hp and 800 Nm of torque, with a zero-to-100 km acceleration time of 4.3 seconds and a zero-to-200 km acceleration time of 14.3 seconds. The "Red Label Edition" with a maximum output of 748 hp and 1000 Nm will be officially launched next year.
